‘He’d be a perfect fit’: Alvaro Negredo believes Real Madrid should target Erling Haaland only WEEKS after the teenager moved to Borussia Dortmund

  • Erling Haaland has been in blistering form since signing for Borussia Dortmund
  • The striker has scored 12 goals in eight games after joining from RB Salzburg
  • Former Spain forward Alvaro Negredo believes he could be the next ‘Galactico’
  • Real Madrid are short of prowess in front of goal ahead of playing Man City

Former Spain international Alvaro Negredo has been so impressed by Erling Haaland’s start at Borussia Dortmund that he thinks Real Madrid should try and sign him.

Haaland has been in breathtaking form since arriving in Germany from Red Bull Salzburg – the 19-year-old has scored 12 goals in eight games in all competitions, including a match-winning brace against PSG in the Champions League last week.

And the Norwegian’s imperious record in front of goal has caught the eye of former Real Madrid and Manchester City striker Negredo, who thinks Haaland could be the next ‘Galactico’ signing at the Bernabeu.

  • Appearances: 30
  • Goals: 40
  • Assists: 8
  • Yellow cards: 3

Statistics according to Transfermarkt

‘He’s [Haaland] a player I’ve seen a lot and he’s spectacular,’ Negredo told Spanish outlet Marca.

‘He can strike with both feet and he’s taking advantage of every chance. He’ll keep growing.

‘He’d be a perfect fit [for Madrid] and he could adapt well with Benzema.

‘Because of Benzema’s way of playing, they need someone else. He needs another forward by his side.’

Haaland has taken European football by storm this season, scoring a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for Salzburg and reaching 10 goals in the competition quicker than any player in history – he has hit the back of the net 40 times in total.

Benzema, meanwhile, has scored just twice in his last 10 games in all competitions, and is struggling for form in a team now without Eden Hazard for at least two months.

Negredo, who also played for Middlesbrough, Sevilla and currently plays for Al-Nasr in Dubai, was speaking ahead of Madrid’s Champions League tie against Manchester City on Wednesday.

After falling to a shock 1-0 defeat at Levante on Saturday and consequently falling behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, Zinedine Zidane’s side will need to be on top-form when they take on City.

The first-leg against Pep Guardiola’s side is at the Bernabeu, before the return-leg at the Etihad Stadium on March 17.
