Heidi Klum is called ‘cruel’ for rejecting plus-size contestant on America’s Got Talent: ‘Just another bully’

Heidi Klum is being accused of fat-shaming after she rejected a plus-size contestant on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent.

The German-born star sparked a Twitter storm after she hit the buzzer on aspiring dancer Amanda Lacount, 19.

It seems many viewers became fans of the young hopeful and were left upset when Klum hit the ‘X’ buzzer before Lacount could finish her performance.

Backlash: Heidi Klum has been accused of fat shaming a plus-size contestant on Tuesday night’s America’s Got Talent after rejecting her performance and cutting it short

Lacount gained fans with her choreography to Todrick Hall’s Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels, after saying she’d struggled in the industry for being plus-size.

The former Project Runway host was called ‘cruel’ and a bully for cutting short the dancer after letting other ‘horrible’ acts continue.

One viewer tweeted, ‘I thought it was so rude of Heidi Klum to give the dancer an X on America’s Got Talent… she’s just another bully on the playground’.

‘Wow. Fat shaming a young girl on #agt. You are old enough to know better! Good for Simon who saw the dancer’s spirit when all you saw was her weight.’

Another wrote, ‘Heidi has ignored some horrible acts, but she chose this one to respond to. A young lady who has already been rejected based on her looks. She could have delivered her opinion without the buzzer,’

Others called for Heidi to be let go from AGT.

‘Heidi needs to go. The X is for the acts that are intentionally bad. If she didn’t like the act, she could have just waited until the end and said no. The X was cruel @AGT’

While many viewers agreed that Lacount deserved the validation for her ‘courage’ and ‘spirit’ another Twitter user disagreed.

‘Anyone that thinks @heidiklum body-shamed that dancer on @AGT clearly didn’t watch the show of they really weren’t paying attention. I loved her and her performance but i didn’t feel it was a million dollar act either. That dosn’t mean it’s body-shaming. Grow up people.’ came another comment.

While fellow judge Howie Mandel initially voted no on Lacount as well, he ultimately changed his vote after being persuaded by the audience.

Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell both gave her positive feedback and a ‘yes’ enabling her to progress to the show’s next stage.

In an introductory segment, Lacount recalled a time when she was younger when a dance studio director told her mother that her body type ‘didn’t fit’ his team.

But she kept pursuing her passion thanks to her mom’s support.

Lacount’s performance earned her a standing ovation from the crowd as well as judges Mandel, Vergara, and Cowell.
