Heinz teases Mayochup to launch in the US – a new mayonnaise-ketchup blend

What do you get when you combine mayonnaise and ketchup?

Heinz, the popular ketchup brand, launched a poll on Twitter asking Americans if they’d like a pre-made combination of the condiments called ‘Mayochup’.

‘Want #mayochup in stores? 500,000 votes for ‘yes’ and we’ll release it to you saucy Americans,’ Heinz tweeted on Thursday.

Heinz, launched a poll on Twitter asking Americans if they’d like a pre-made combination of the condiments called ‘Mayochup’ and will release it if they get 500,000 ‘yes’ votes

The product is currently available in parts of the Middle East, but will come the US if enough votes are cast by the time the poll closes on Sunday.

‘We’ve seen a fierce debate on Twitter, with over 200,000 already voting yes,’ Nicole Kulwicki, Director of Marketing for Heinz said on Thursday. ‘It’s looking like Heinz Mayochup has a strong chance of launching.’

However, not all of the buzz surrounding the product has been positive. Many Twitter users have blasted the product from the actual combination of ingredients to the marketed name.

‘”Mayochup” is the last straw. Bye forever internet,’ wrote one Twitter user.

‘I find it hard to believe y’all marketing team really couldn’t come up with a better name than mf mayochup,’ tweeted another.

One Twitter user joked: ‘Do you need something to be upset about for no reason at all this Friday morning? I present to you, Mayochup.’

Some say the product is not a new invention been around as Fry Sauce in Utah and Salsa Rosada in Latin America.

Other say the combo is just short of relish from becoming a salad dressing like Thousand Island or special sauce like the one on McDonald’s famous Big Mac.

As of Friday morning, more than 711,000 votes have been cast with 55 percent of voters saying ‘yes’ and 45 percent saying ‘no’.

The company has also committed to putting the name of the product up for a vote before the launch so it may not be known as ‘Mayochup’ when it hits store shelves.

‘We know our friends in Idaho and Utah are passionate about “Fry Sauce,'”and we’ve seen lots of other great suggestions online, so if we get to 500,000 YES votes, we will be giving the nation a say in our final name,’ Kulwicki said.
