Hero strangers pull a baby and little girl from the wreckage of a car before it burst into flames

  • The driver allegedly tried to avoid an obstruction on the road and lost control 
  • The car smashed into a tree and witnesses rushed to the wreckage to help 
  • Two children were pulled from the wreckage just before it erupted in flames
  • The incident occurred on Friday in the south coast region of Perth

Heroic strangers managed to save a baby and a little girl from a car just moments before it erupted in flames. 

The male driver lost control of the car in Perth’s south before colliding with a tree while driving along Thomas Road, Orelia on Friday morning 7 News reported. 

Witnesses said it looked as if the driver lost control after he attempted to avoid an obstruction on the road and rushed to the car after the accident, trying to smash open the window witness Ian Urquhart said.

‘But we just couldn’t do it so we dragged them out through the back,’ he said.

‘The engine bay was on fire, so one of the other fellas that pulled up, so he put that out, he came back ten seconds later and the car just caught on fire.’ 

One witness described the scene as a ‘big ball of fire’.

The extent of the damage and just what could have happened to the occupants of the car became evident in pictures taken of the vehicle after the incident. 

Witnesses said the man and two children were lucky to be alive. 

The man and two small children were transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
