‘He’s got an awful lot to offer’: Gareth Bale should sign for Newcastle according to Ally McCoist

‘He’s got an awful lot to offer at the highest level’: Gareth Bale should sign for Newcastle and NOT Cardiff, according to Ally McCoist – as he insists ‘admirable’ move to boyhood club would be selling himself short

  • Ally McCoist has urged Gareth Bale to sign for Newcastle instead of Cardiff
  • Bale had reportedly been in talks with Bluebirds over a potential return
  • McCoist claims that the former Madrid man still has ‘an awful lot to offer’ a side
  • Welsh international is hoping to secure a new club ahead of the World Cup

Football pundit Ally McCoist has claimed Gareth Bale should sign for Newcastle instead of Cardiff, after reports over a potential move to the Bluebirds emerged recently.

The Welsh international is out of a contract after his deal at Real Madrid came to an end this summer and has been closely linked with a move back to his boyhood club in the transfer window.

But McCoist claims that the former Galactico would be selling himself short by doing so and insists that the Welshman still has ‘an awful lot to offer’ a Premier League side.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: ‘I’m looking at it and clearly there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to go back and play for your hometown club.

‘I think it’s admirable, to say the least. However I still feel that he’s got an awful lot to offer at the highest level, I really do.

‘You watch him in the internationals and he’ll be all geared up for the World Cup in Qatar and I just think that surely there are Premier League clubs out there.

‘Automatically, I just think that Newcastle would be ideal.’

Wales legend Dean Saunders agreed with McCoist’s claim and insisted that Newcastle are ‘going in the right direction’ for Bale.

Speaking with talkSPORT, Saunders said: ‘If I could pick a club for him to go to now, I’d say sign for Newcastle. They’ve got a project; they’re going in the right direction – he would slot in.

‘The fans right now in Newcastle, because I’ve been there and I worked there – and I realise how much they love the club – right now they could sell 80,000 season tickets.’

As Wales prepare for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, Bale will be hoping to sign for a club where he can maintain his fitness levels ahead of the tournament in December.

The five-time Champions League winner made a sensational loan return to Tottenham in the 2020/21 season and thus a move to Cardiff wouldn’t be out of the question.

Despite an impressive 11 goal return from his 20 Premier League appearances at Spurs, Bale remained on the periphery of the Madrid squad last year – only making five appearances in LaLiga.
