A high-profile barrister is suing his former lawyer neighbour after he was bashed to a pulp in an ‘unprovoked’ attack sparked by a noise complaint.

Peter Nolan suffered a broken nose, a split retina in his left eye and cuts to his face after he was attacked by Robert Mark Hynes on August 20, 2016, in Brisbane.

The now 68-year-old told the court that he has severe anxiety, depression and PTSD – which he said led to a loss of work and income, the Courier-Mail reported.

Hynes was convicted over the assault last year.

During the hearing at Brisbane’s Magistrates Court, Mr Nolan claimed he was at home at 10.30pm but heard children playing loudly outside at Hynes’ tennis court.

He called out to the kids and told them to keep quiet or he’d call the police, which is when Hynes went to Mr Nolan’s house and attacked him.

The pair were having a verbal altercation before Hynes pushed Mr Nolan in to the wall and punched him in the head four or five times.

The punches only stopped once Mr Nolan fell to the floor, the court heard.

‘No one talks to my f***ing kids like that,’ Hynes told Mr Nolan.

Seven months after the attack, Hynes sold his mansion for $3.2 million.

He was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended for three years after pleading guilty to the serious assault of a person over 60-years-old.

He agreed to pay for Mr Nolan to consult a psychologist and receive treatment after being diagnosed with PTSD, the publication reported.

The matter has been paused before the courts until Mr Nolan files more material and launches a personal injury damages suit.
