Hijack fear as Singapore Airlines plane transmits emergency alert off coast of Los Angeles

There are fears a Singapore Airlines plane might have been hijacked after it transmitted an emergency alert off the US coast. 

Singapore Airlines flight SQ37 sent out 7500 transponder code shortly after taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, according to online flight tracker ADS-B Exchange.

The aircraft, which is flying to scheduled to fly to Singapore, left the West Coast of the United States before midnight yesterday. 

Shortly afterwards it transmitted a 7500 code, which is an emergency signal indicating a possible hijacking.

However, after the code was transmitted, the flight continued on its normal course.
