A sheep made a daring bid for freedom – by charging into a nearby Waitrose after escaping an Easter market.

The animal in question had appeared at a sheep show at the Easter Canopy Market, held over holiday weekend at Granary Square in London King’s Cross.

However, in the early evening, customers sitting quietly outside the Waitrose store were stunned when they saw the lone sheep suddenly racing towards the supermarket.

One woman, Jess Hodge, caught the whole charade on camera, sharing it to her Twitter page with the caption: ‘Spotted in Waitrose.’

Another woman, who appeared to be Miss Hodge’s friend, alerted social media to the bizarre incident sharing on Twitter.

‘A sheep has broken free from a King’s Cross petting zoo and marauded into Waitrose.’

She added: ‘Captured, and carried back out. There is footage. I have seen it. I am working on Olly & Jess to release the videos, for the public good. Here’s to a twitter link coming soon. Stay tuned.’

Just hours later, the video footage appeared with the sheep visibly dashing across the forecourt before making a beeline for the open doors.

Laughter and loud music could be heard in the background with one woman joking: ‘I don’t think it’s supposed to go in Waitrose.’

It’s unknown how the animal made a break for it, but its owner, a disgruntled-looking farmer, quickly rounded up the sheep carrying it back out of the store as the crowd that had gathered outside looked on.

The Easter Canopy Market featured food stalls and a sheep show, where the animal is believed to have made an appearance.

According to the King’s Cross event site there was also a petting farm with lambs, goats, ducks and rabbits where children ‘who don’t get out to the countryside can get up close to live animals and learn all about them’.
