A homeowner has posted a hilarious compilation of an unfortunate postie battling a magpie on her daily deliveries.

The territorial battle in Cessnockin, two-hours north of Sydney, was filmed on a security camera by Mark Byrnes shows a postie struggling to deliver mail in late August.

The footage, posted to YouTube, was filmed across four separate days where the postie can be seen covering her head with her own hands and mail as she stops in front of a letterbox.

The letter box is unfortunately placed directly in front of a tree the bird has chosen to roost in – provoking the magpie.

Across the first two days the postie is forced to stop with the magpie following just metres behind while on the third she speeds past the tree trying to escape the bird.

On the final day filmed by Mr Brynes the postie under-fire is forced to dismount their bike and walk a package up to the door.

With the bird following closely behind the postie constantly turns their head checking on the magpie before she waves at it and speeds away.

Mr Brynes said his family have only lived in the house for around 18 months but the magpie has always left them alone

‘He obviously has a problem with the postie though,’ Mr Byrnes told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I met up with the postie at the post office later that week and co-incidentally, she was talking to someone else about this magpie (and) how it has it in for her.’

He said much to the postie’s delight the bird has seemingly stopped swooping – at least for the time being.

Magpies are a well-known pest to during spring season with the birds known for being extremely territorial and often terrorise pedestrians and cyclists that come too close to their nest.

To make matters worse magpies are known for nesting in the same tree for much of their life meaning that problems with swooping can go on for years.
