Hillary aides called the Clinton Foundation ‘Chelsea’s nest egg’ claims new book

Chelsea Clinton took inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge for how to manage the birth of her first child, a new book claims.

She and her aides ‘studied’ how the British royal family had handled the birth of Prince George in 2013 in order to prepare for her own first baby, who was born a year later.

Bill and Hillary Clinton’s only daughter Chelsea, as well as her staff, noted how press was handled and how the Duchess of Cambridge handled herself, and used it as a template for themselves, the book claims.

The claim suggests that Chelsea saw herself as an equal to the Duchess of Cambridge, meaning that the Clintons were the American equivalent of the British royal family.

The comparison was made in the new book Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns and One Intact Glass Ceiling, written by New York Times journalist Amy Chozick.

Chozick covered Clinton for a both her Presidential campaigns and her gossipy memoir is full of salacious details about the failed Democratic candidate and her family.

She writes that in Spring 2014 she went to the premiere of ‘Of Many’, a documentary short that Chelsea Clinton had produced, and noticed how far she had come as her own person.

Earlier that day, Chelsea had announced that she and her husband Marc Mezvinsky were expecting their first child, Charlotte.

Chozick marveled at how Chelsea had blossomed into an adult and how she had ‘flowing straight hair and a permanent strawberry glow’.

The reality was that she went to expensive hairdresser and got keratin treatments to look good, according to the book. Chelsea specifically denies the keratin – although no other aspect of the royal comparison.

Chozick writes: ‘Chelsea’s press aide told me they’d studied how Britain’s royal family had handled Princess Kate’s pregnancy to devise a media strategy’.

Prince George had been born in July 2013 and Charlotte Clinton, Chelsea’s first child, was born in September 2014.

Chozick says that Chelsea had long exercised a strong influence on her mother, including over her appearance.

During her mother’s 2008 campaign most of the female reporters who were on the road – and Clinton – put on weight because they were not eating or exercising properly.

During the 2008 Indiana primary Chelsea swatted her mother’s hand away from a dish of chips and salsa by saying: ‘Mom!’

Last week, Chelsea hit back at claims Chozick made in her book, particularly one that she was popping champagne after the polls closed – and before her mom’s stunning loss to Donald Trump.

‘Things were already looking bad when, several people told me, Chelsea Clinton popped the Champagne,’ Chozick writes, according to a preview in the New York Times.

But Chelsea was quick to refute the claims, tweeting that she had actually been pumping breast milk for her infant son when she was supposed to be knocking back the bubbly.

‘At that time I was with my husband. Alone. Pumping milk for my 5 month old son,’ she wrote, adding that Chozick never bothered fact checking the claims with her. ‘Happy to talk to Amy’s sources. Unless it’s the old medela milk bag. That would be weird…!’

Chozick claims that the disputed toast happened after 9pm, shortly before key states began to fall to Trump.

‘It was just after 9 p.m. on election night and she was having her hair and makeup done in the family’s suite at the Peninsula hotel,’ she writes.

She adds: ‘She stopped to pour what someone said was Veuve Clicquot into everyone’s glasses, figuring that in a couple of hours Donald Trump’s run of early victories in red states (West Virginia, Oklahoma, Alabama) would end and the map would turn back in her mom’s favor.’

The candidate’s daughter immediately denied the claim.

‘Hi @amychozick!’ she wrote on Twitter. ‘The 1st line (‘Things were already looking bad when Chelsea Clinton popped the Champagne’) is false. I would have been happy to tell you that if you’d asked, which you didn’t. Looking forward to the correction once you fact check. Thanks!’

She then denied having poured Italian sparkling wine as well, retweeting another commenter, whose handle is ‘Bitcoins and Scotch,’ who wrote mockingly that ‘IT WAS PROSECCO PEOPLE.’

Clinton hit back. ‘Hi Bitcoins and Scotch! No. It’s a gorgeous day in New York. Hoping you are enjoying equally beautiful weather wherever you are. Have a splendid day!’
