Hillary Clinton reveals she’s a huge fan of Meghan Markle but slams ‘authoritarian’ Boris Johnson

Hillary Clinton has revealed she’s a ‘huge fan’ of Meghan Markle, hailing her as ‘gutsy’ – but slammed UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, branding him a ‘wannabe authoritarian’.

The former First Lady of the United States, 71, has shown her support for the Duchess of Sussex, 38, insisting both she and daughter Chelsea, 39, feel the royal is doing great work.

However the politician has warned she ‘fears’ for the UK as she feels Boris, 55, is ‘taking advantage’ of British voters, claiming he’s using their support to eventually become an ‘authoritarian ruler’.

Asked in an interview for The Sunday Times Magazine, with her daughter, if they thought the Duchess of Sussex is a ‘gutsy woman’, the pair exclaimed: ‘Yes!’

Hilary added: ‘Yes she is, I’m a huge Meghan Markle fan.’

The question of whether Meghan is ‘gutsy’ came amid a discussion on the pair’s co-authored book ‘The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience’ – which celebrates female bravery throughout history.

Despite her appreciation for Duchess Meghan, Hillary isn’t as keen on the current UK Prime Minister, and when quizzed on whether Boris was correct in being hailed ‘the people’s hero’ in his quest to push through the Brexit referendum result, Hillary insisted the politician is simply a hero to ‘himself’.

She claimed she ‘fears’ for people of the UK if they view him as a champion of the people, arguing he – like US President Donald Trump – is pursuing the ‘playbook of wannabe authoritarians’.

‘I really worry,’ she told the magazine. ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen with Brexit, or impeachment, or our upcoming election – and I don’t care what your political ideology is.

‘If you invest your support in people who will try and take advantage of it to promote themselves to become authoritarian leaders, then we are headed for an even worse outcome.’

She added that she sees parallels with Trump, who beat her to the US presidency, in ‘blowhard’ Boris’ ambition and warning of violence on the streets if the government fails to ‘get Brexit done’.

Last month, senior allies of Boris claimed that Britain could face civil unrest on the level of the yellow vest protests in France or the riots in Los Angeles in 1992 if Britain does not leave the EU.

A senior cabinet minister also alleged a potential referendum to overturn the result of the first one could lead to a ‘violent, popular uprising’.

Hillary insisted that she views Johnson’s ‘total disregard for facts’ as paralleling those of a ‘authoritarian’ leader.

Earlier this month, Hillary revealed that she felt the ‘gutsiest’ thing she had ever done was staying in her marriage following her husband’s scandalous affair with 22-year-old White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Chelsea described the incident as an ‘incredibly painful time’ in her family’s history and insisted that it’s ‘obvious’ to her that her mother would answer the question in that way.

Another of the women featuring in Hilary’s book is 16-year-old Swedish Activist Greta Thunberg, who has been credited for driving a global movement in the fight against climate change.

The teenager recently made a highly publicized appearance at a United Nations climate summit where she accused world leaders of handing younger generations a world of rising seas and increasingly severe weather.

After the speech, a leading psychologist voiced his concern about the mental well-being of the autistic activist and compared Greta’s position in the spotlight to the fame of a child TV star who could ‘burn out’ after being thrust into the spotlight.

Chelsea confessed that she too worries for Thunberg, in the same way she worries for the safety of her mother, as she feels there are many ‘very angry’ people who are ‘very threatened’ by her actions.
