Hillsong founder Brian Houston’s wife Bobbie squirms as lurid texts read out on church Zoom call

Hillsong founder Brian Houston’s wife squirmed on camera as a text from her husband to another woman was read aloud in a church-wide video conference.

Bobbie Houston was kept on mute in the Zoom call as details of the text messages were revealed to the Hillsong megachurch staff and elders.

But her exasperated eye-rolls, grimaces, side-eye and obvious discomfort spoke volumes.

Stand-in global pastor Phil Dooley was using the video call to explain the reasons behind Houston’s sudden exit from the church in March.

The Australian founder and close friend of ex-PM Scott Morrison quit the church after an investigation into the married pastor’s ‘inappropriate behaviour’ toward two women.

It was also revealed he also had an addiction to sleeping tablets and had been taking medication for anxiety which sent him off the rails when he mixed it with alcohol.

In newly-surfaced footage of the video conference, pastor Dooley spells out the intimate details behind Houston’s dramatic exit from the church after 39 years.

‘The first incident involved Pastor Brian text messaging with a female member of staff, which ended in an inappropriate text message,’ he revealed.

‘[It was] along the lines of, “If I was with you, I’d like to give you a kiss and a cuddle or a hug,” – words of that nature.

‘That particular staff member was obviously upset by that.’

Houston’s wife Bobbie is seen on the video call wearing a lucky Seven-style black baseball cap and grimaces through the revelation with her chin on her fist.

She then squirms awkwardly and shifts in her seat in the silence as the ramifications of the text settled on the video call.

Pastor Dooley explained the woman then approached church elders over Houston’s text, which was sent 10 years ago, and said she could no longer work at the church.

Hillsong Australia’s general manager George Aghajanian butts into the video to stress that Houston was hooked on sleeping pills at that time and the church had helped him beat the addiction.

At one stage, Bobbie Houston appears to start trying to talk angrily over the video conference call but her microphone is switched off and she can’t be heard.

Dooley explained the woman later returned to the church to say she had struggled to find work since leaving and wanted compensation which the church paid, but which Houston then later repaid himself.

Bobbie Houston then watched on again in silence as the second more recent of her husband’s misdemeanours was laid bare before the church elders.

Pastor Dooley revealed how the church founder had gone up to a woman’s hotel room after a boozy night drinking in the bar,  and stayed there for 40 minutes.

The incident in 2021 was blamed on Houston mixing his anxiety medication with alcohol but what happened in the room remains a mystery.

With Ms Houston watching on silently, Pastor Dooley revealed: ‘There was a group drinking [including] a woman who was part of our church.

‘Brian had also been taking anxiety tablets and later that evening, he went to attempt to go to his room, didn’t have his room key and ended up knocking on the door of this woman’s room.

‘She opened the door and he went into her room.’

He added: ‘Truth is, we don’t know exactly what happened next.

‘This woman has not said there was any sexual activity. Brian has said there was no sexual activity.

‘But he was in the room for 40 minutes. He doesn’t have much of a recollection because of, he says, the mixture of the anxiety tablets and the alcohol.

‘This woman had also been drinking and so her recollection is not completely coherent.’

Ms Houston can again be seen to shift awkwardly in her seat as the details were revealed and appears to sigh deeply before literally biting her lip.

She then blinks and looks accusing at the camera before appearing to side eye at the camera.

Later in the broadcast pastor Dooley asks church members to pray for Brian and Bobbie Houston, prompting Ms Houston to glare at the camera before leaning back in her chair and rolling her eyes.

She then leans so far forward she almost headbutts the camera as pastor Dooley adds: ‘Obviously, there is a lot of pain associated with this.

‘Sin is messy, and and it brings all kinds of pain.’

When the pastor ends the meeting with a prayer, Ms Houston initially holds her head in her hands in apparent exasperation before returning to glare at the camera with clasped hands.

A month after the video conference call, Brian Houston claimed Hillsong kicked his wife out of the church with a text telling her she was being made redundant.

The Houstons are currently believed to be touring Europe, with their latest social media update apparently posted from Italy on Friday.

Hillsong Church has been approached for comment.
