Hipster Melbourne cafe creates Guy Tea high tea for men

Hipster haven Melbourne has done it again with a cafe in the cool city announcing the ‘Guy Tea’ –  a trendy twist on the traditional high tea.

Created by The Stables of Como, it’s a unique take on afternoon tea parties and is perfect for the modern man.

Café management said the concept was created to give guys a fun and ‘exciting’ way to be included in the city’s hip happenings.

‘We wanted men to be able to enjoy the special dining that we have to offer here, high tea in our café is one of the most popular items but we wanted ours to have a point of difference to cater to all tastes,’ the manager said.

‘The high tea is one of our bestsellers so we wanted to create something fun and exciting for men. It was a way to stop them from feeling excluded from that sort of dining.

‘And so the project began to capture something that is stunning, delectable and most importantly would put hairs on your chest.’

The tasty ‘man-focused’ menu does away with fancy finger foods, there’s nary a cucumber sandwich or mini macaroon in sight, for more substantial offerings.

The delectable spread includes sliders, mini pies, and chunky chips

The Guy Tea spread features some tempting treats including delicious twice-cooked chunky chips, mini pork sliders, and free-flowing Peroni.

The menu also nods at tradition with mini red velvet lamingtons, mini Belgian brownies and homemade scones and cream.

Although the Guy Tea comes in at $75 per head, the trendy take has been a hit with its male customers, the cafe said.

And it’s also proving a winner with the ladies, who want a little ‘more’.

‘The Guy Tea is popular with some of our female customers who are wanting something a bit more substantial than the high tea, or many do half high tea and half Guy Tea.’

The Stables of Como takes bookings for 90 minute spread at any time, and is offering the special feast to any rad dads come this Father’s Day, September 3.
