H&M slammed by shopper over size 16 dress

A shopper has slammed H&M after struggling to squeeze into a size 16 dress being sold by the retailer.

Claire, who posts on Instagram under @the_twins_and_i, shared a picture of herself wearing a navy star printed frock – while covering her face with an angry emoji.

She said the £24.99 dress was ‘so short’ that it was ‘more like a top’, questioning ‘Are they having a bloody laugh’?

The mother-of-two said she is usually a size 14, but has previously fit into a size small – the equivalent of a size 10 or 12 – at the shop in the past.

Claire shared a snap of herself wearing an H&M printed frock (right) next to a model wearing the same garment (left). She has criticised the store after failing to fit into a size 16, despite normally being a size 14

Posting a side-by-side snap of herself and a model wearing the frock, Claire joked: ‘I think I look quite similar to the model in this @hm dress.’

She continued: ‘This is a size 16, a bloody 16!! I got the bigger size because @hm sizing is crap, one minute I need a small and the next a 18.

‘I literally just about got myself out of it let alone in it. My mum died laughing while I was left raging.’

Claire called on shops to ‘sort out their sizing’, adding: ‘How is this a size 16? I’m a 14, I couldn’t do it, actually I just couldn’t get it on full stop! ‘It was so short, more like a top than a dress.’

It is not the first time that H&M has been criticised by shoppers for the way it sizes its clothes.

In August, Samantha Bell shared a picture showing how a pair of size 16 jeans from the retailer appeared to be siginificantly smaller than a Primark pair.

Taking to Twitter to vent her frustration, she wrote: ‘Come on, @hm – you guys NEED to sort this out! H&M 16 (blue) vs Primark 16 (black). Not cool.’

It has previously been suggested that a discrepancy between UK and European sizing at H&M means that shoppers struggle to fit into their usual dress size at the store.

For example, a UK 12 is an EUR 40, according to size conversion charts but at H&M it’s labelled a 38, meaning it’s actually a size 10.

MailOnline has contacted H&M for comment.
