This week’s topics also include how to travel to Turkey for the Nomad Games and how to book tickets and fly to the Australian Open tennis.

Q. Can you recommend a multi-generational family trip in a snowy destination with non-ski activities?

A. How about Salla, in Finland, where reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile trips, husky rides and ice-fishing are offered? A week’s self-catering in a cabin with sauna is from £680pp with Gatwick flights/transfers (crystalski.co.uk).

Q. I want to travel to Turkey to attend the World Nomad Games this year. Can you help?

Bev Clough, via email.

A. No date has been set for this year’s games, which feature horse racing, wrestling and ‘kok boru’, a team game involving a goat’s carcass. They will take place in Iznik, but Turkey’s tourist board could not confirm when. Best to keep an eye out on the internet.

Q. My dream is to go to the Australian Open tennis. Can you recommend how?

Anita Shirly, via email.

A. Prices are yet to be released for next January’s tournament, but you can register interest at sportsnet holidays.com, or buy flights independently and book stadium tickets via ausopen.com.

Q. When is the best-value time to book flights to Orlando departing December 18?

Lesley Steers, via email.

A. Flights from London for ten-day trips are currently from £900 with Norwegian, or £1,180 with BA (see google.com/flights). However, Tui Airways (tui.co.uk) releases flights seven months before December 18, and these could be less.
