Holidaymakers fear missing their flights as they are held in hours-long Ryanair queues

Furious passengers branded Ryanair ‘an utter shambles’ after hundreds waited for hours in queues the length of Stansted Airport.

Customers accused the budget airline of not having enough staff to cope with the huge queues and some feared missing their flights while waiting to check in.

The airport said queues were likely to have been a result of passengers catching re-booked flights after many were cancelled due to bad weather in recent days.

However, Ryanair passengers this morning claimed to have had their flights cancelled at the last minute.

Others say they have been waiting on the tarmac for more than an hour.

Gabriele Piga wrote on Twitter: ‘@RyanAir message at 3.30am about flight cancelled #Stansted to Eindhoven. Was on my to to the airport.

‘No customer support phone. 2 receptionists out of 4 at the airport. Cannot change online. Thanks #Ryanair.’

David Smith said: ‘Been sat on the tarmac at Stansted for nearly an hour now, with at least half an hour til take off. Some air traffic control problem apparently. Not fun.’

Phil Halston added: ‘Can u muster any personnel to control the queing at stansted. It’s an utter shambles.’

It follows days of disruption affecting the airline and hundreds of its passengers.

Air passengers were stuck in Berlin and Budapest while others at Stansted faced huge queues last night, with frustrated travellers demanding to know why Ryanair was the only firm cancelling flights due to ‘adverse weather’.

Nicky Peters also tweeted: ‘My two daughters aged 19 and 15 are currently sitting in a plane in Budapest.

‘They have been on the plane three hours and have been told they will not take off for over another hour.

‘The cabin crew won’t give them food or drink. This is disgusting and I can’t contact anyone to get info.’

Ryanair told EssexLive yesterday: ‘Due to adverse weather conditions around London Stansted yesterday (31 May) we regret we were forced to cancel a small number of flights.

‘All affected customers were contacted by email and SMS text message and advised of their options of a full refund, rebooking on to the next available flight or transferring to an alternative flight.

‘We apologised for any inconvenience caused by this weather disruption, which was entirely beyond our control.’
