Holly Willoughby ‘battling crippling fear of spiders’ as she prepares to co-host I’m A Celebrity

She’s set to jet to Australia in November to co-host I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alongside Declan Donnelly.

However, Holly Willoughby is said to be battling an intense fear of insects as she prepares to enter the outback – which homes some of the world’s most dangerous spiders.

The 37-year-old This Morning host has discussed her unease at critters in the past, but is reportedly worried that she could ‘freeze’ on screen if she spots a pest whilst presenting.

A source told The Daily Star: ‘Holly is excited to be going on her Australian adventure but she is really worried about the country’s numerous deadly spiders.

‘Holly has a genuine fear of the critters and is worried she will freeze on screen if she sees one. Hopefully Dec will then come to her rescue.’

As Holly previously overcame her fear of flying with the help of phobia-busting life coaches Nik and Eva Speakman, insiders are said to be urging Holly to call on them for help with her arachnophobia.

Holly confirmed that she would be co-hosting I’m A Celebrity on Wednesday in a statement, in which she quipped: ‘When is it a good time to tell Dec I’m scared of everything that moves?’

The bubbly blonde’s fear of critters has impacted her work before, with the mother-of-three refusing to sample a termite-filled curry on This Morning last year.

Holly was seen gagging during the cooking segment as Kenyan chef Kiran Jethwa served up the critter-filled treat, which her co-host Phillip Schofield happily tucked into.

Holly was horrified with the addition, exclaiming: ‘Why have you done that?’ before retching.

‘I can see them floating around in the broth, it’s like a fly in your soup,’ a disgusted-looking Holly continued.

Grim: She wasn't impressed

Later the group moved on to drinks and nibbles and while Holly was tempted by a margarita, Kiran told her she’d have to have it with a worm.

‘I’ll have the margarita, you can have the worm. I can’t eat them,’ Holly insisted. Yet again Phil was keen to try, this time crunching on crickets, locusts, water bugs and cockroaches.

Despite her initial disgust, later in the year Holly took part in a Bushtucker Trial-inspired segment of the show, reluctantly sampling a piece of bug-filled bread.

Holly was seen gagging as she nibbled on a loaf that contained 70 dried and ground house crickets.

Holly will be filling in for Ant McPartlin when I’m A Celebrity returns in November, as the presenter takes a career break during his addiction recovery.
