- A mum has asked for help to make her daughter’s cake look more sophisticated
- The 17-year-old prefers the Freddo ice cream cakes for her birthday each year
- But her mum is afraid it looks too ‘babyish’ and wants to give it a glow up
Mums have revealed exactly how they have transformed the iconic Freddo ice cream cake to fit in with more sophisticated occasions.
The mums posted their ice cream cake hacks after one woman asked how she could add some class to the dessert for her daughter’s 17th birthday party.
‘Any suggestions how to spruce this Freddo ice cream cake to look a bit more teenagerish and not look too babyish?

Another mum showed off her Freddo cake stack – which included dripping magic ice chocolate icing
Others revealed they pop the cake on a nice cake stand and added cake toppers to make them look the part
‘Was wondering if I can stack two, one on top of each other, to give it a bit more of a wow factor,’ she said.
And people were quick to help – with others adding their ages and explaining they too prefer ice cream cake.
‘I am 56 and this is my go-to,’ one man said, adding that there is no need to make it fancy.
Others said the easiest way to make the cake fit the date is to pop on a fancy cake topper and cover the cake with lollies.
‘I just added some ribbon around it and a happy birthday sign on top. You could also place some artificial flowers or something on top if you like that look,’ one mum said, adding a photo of the ice cream cake her 27-year-old daughter was given last year.
While others shared pictures of the cake bordered in chocolate with lollies spread all over the top.

Others said they simply add a few scoops of their favourite ice cream on top of the cake
‘Oh I like this, she loves lollies,’ the mum responded to one picture of an ice cream cake topped in gummy bears.
Another mum said she drizzled chocolate on top and added meringue pops to give her Freddo cake a ‘glow up’ for her daughter’s big day.
Some questioned why the mum would need to make the iconic treat any more special.
Some said they prefer to put two Valetta ice cream cakes together and top them with cut fruit and a topper
While some said topping the cakes with treats like biscuits and chocolate works well
‘This ice cream cake is great I brought one for my own birthday when I turned 37,’ one woman said.
‘It really is special enough as it is,’ she added.
Another woman, who was told she couldn’t ask for the cake once she turned 23, agreed.
‘I did try to stack them for my 21st however they just melted too quickly and was a disaster. Mind you my birthday is February so quite warm. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a good old Freddo cake,’ she said.
Many suggested the home-made ice cream cake is superior – as it can feature all of the best flavours
Others said they simply add chocolate and a happy birthday sign, but these photos show how different that can look

A third said she knows a whole family who wouldn’t have the Freddo cake any other way.
‘The whole point of this cake is that it’s fun. Don’t change it one bit. My friend in high school said this was the only cake anyone in her family wanted, even to this day, all in their 20’s they only want the Freddo ice cream cake,’ she said.
Others said she should make her own, buying her 17-year-old daughter’s favourite ice cream, cookie dough, chocolates and lollies and pressing it into a cake tin before freezing.
‘We’ve always made ice cream cakes buy getting vanilla ice cream adding the topping we want and putting it into a springform pan to set. Then decorate the top and you have a custom but price effective ice cream cake,’ another mum added.
The post got over 400 comments from ice cream cake lovers and people with advice on how to make the treat fit the occasion.
