Homeless man evicts baby Jesus from his nativity manger

A homeless man broke into a nativity scene and booted baby Jesus out of his crib so he had somewhere warm to sleep.

The rough sleeper bedded down in a manger next to large plastic models of Mary and Joseph.

The unidentified man, who had ‘no crib for a bed,’ spent the night sleeping in the middle of the biblical scene in the city of Guadalajara, in the western Mexican state of Jalisco.

Hilarious photographs show him lying on a bed of hay, where a doll of the baby Jesus is usually found, his head sticking out from beneath a woolly blanket.

The man spent hours lying in the recently construction nativity scene in Plaza de la Liberacion, which translates as ‘the plaza of freedom’.

Hundreds of people walked past without noticing him slumbering away in the middle of the festive scene.

Eventually a curious passerby lifted a blanket covering the crib, expecting to see baby Jesus lying inside.

Police were called to the nativity scene and politely asked the homeless man to move on

But instead of Christ the Saviour, they discovered a fully grown man, getting some shut eye.

The police were then called to the nativity scene and politely asked if the homeless man would leave the manger.

They offered to put him up for the evening in a nearby hostel, assuring him that it would be more comfortable.

During winter, temperatures plummet in Guadalajara so the authorities are currently offering a scheme to transfer homeless people to shelters.

Here they will be guaranteed hot food to eat and a warm place to spend the night.
