Homeless woman, 47, is killed after she lies down to sleep in front of apartment garage and is run over by driver in the morning

  • Trecell R. Stinson, 47, was asleep outside an apartment garage  in the 2700 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue in Portland, Oregon, about 6:25 a.m. Friday
  • A driver pulling out his vehicle at that time told police he felt a bump, but did not see what he had run over
  • When he continued moving, the driver said he felt another bump, and that that’s when he realized he had run over Stinson and called 911 
  • Stinson was conscious and talking when cops arrived at the scene, and was taken to a hospital for treatment, but took a turn for the worse and passed away
  • No charges were filed against the driver while the police conduct a follow up investigation

A homeless woman has died after she went to sleep outside an apartment garage in Oregon and was run over by a driver who did not see her lying in the driveway Friday morning, police said. 

Tercell R. Stintson, 47, was conscious and talking when authorities arrived outside the apartment on 92nd Avenue in Portland, about 6:25am, according to a police report. 

But when she was taken to a hospital for treatment, she took a turn for the worse and passed away, the Portland Police Bureau said.

The driver had told police that his car had been backed up into the garage.

‘When he came out to his car to go to work, he pulled forward out of the garage and felt a bump,’ police said in the report. 

A follow up investigation is planned by authorities, the Portland Police said

‘He stopped but did not see what he had struck’. 

‘He continued pull out and felt another bump,’ the report says. ‘That’s when he realized that he had run over someone. He immediately called 911 for help.’ 

The woman’s injuries were not initially thought to be life threatening, police said, but the woman later died in hospital. 

No charges were filed against the driver, who was not identified.

A follow up investigation is planned by authorities, police said.
