Homes Under The Hammer’s Martel Maxwell reveals man crashed into her during skiing accident in Austria after Gwyneth Paltrow won her legal fight

Homes Under The Hammer star Martel Maxwell has revealed she was involved in a skiing accident while on holiday in the Austrian Alps.

The TV presenter, 46, recalled the scary experience in the wake of Gwyneth Paltrow’s trial over a ski accident she was involved in back in 2016.

Martel told how a man higher up the slope collided with her after he lost control on the slopes.

Writing in Scottish newspaper The Courier, Martel said: ‘Thankfully no one was hurt. The man who collided with me came from higher up the slope (with the person lower down having the right of way), lost control and ploughed into me.

‘The scariest bit was hurtling with him towards a sharp drop but (a bruised leg aside) everything was thankfully fine.

‘The skiing conditions that afternoon were pretty tricky as the sun melted the snow and I think he simply lost control after his skis hit sludge.’

The broadcaster added that the man apologised and checked she was OK, which she appreciated.

Martel has been presenting Homes Under The Hammer since 2017 while she has also previously served as a reporter on ITV’s Lorraine and BBC’s The One Show.

It comes after Gwyneth won her four-year legal fight against retired optometrist Terry Sanderson over a 2016 ski crash.

Jurors in Park City dramatically declared her not to be at fault for the 2016 crash that Sanderson says left him with four broken ribs and a permanent brain injury.

In the moments after the jury returned their verdict siding with her, Paltrow was seen walking up to Sanderson and telling him: ‘I wish you well.’

Moments later, she released a statement via her Instagram stories that read: ‘I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.

‘I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and I appreciate their thoughtfulness in handling this case.’

Outside court, her lawyer Stephen Owens said: ‘We’re pleased with the outcome and appreciate the judge and jury’s thoughtful handling of the case.

‘Gwyneth has a history of advocating for what she believes in, this situation was no different, and she will continue to stand for what is right.’

On Thursday the jury found that Sanderson, 76, was ‘100 per cent’ to blame for the crash at the upmarket Utah ski resort seven years ago after taking just two hours and 20 minutes to reach a verdict.

Paltrow, the 50-year-old founder of the luxury wellness brand Goop, is worth $200million and won an Oscar for her role in Shakespeare in Love.

Her adversary, Sanderson, 76, is a twice-divorced retired optometrist from Utah, whose net worth is unknown.
