The witness warrant was for a court appearance in Moe, 150kilometres from where the body was found, Nine News reported.

Neighbours allegedly alerted the police to a foul smell coming from the property, and witnesses said officers arrived at the home at 11am.

Officers entered the home through the unlocked front door and discovered the body inside.

Evidence bags were loaded into a white van and homicide detectives examined the front porch of the property.
