A murder investigation has been launched into the discovery of a woman’s body found in an abandoned home in Melbourne’s east.

Police were called to an address in Bedford Road, Ringwood around 11.30pm on Saturday night following reports from the public of a dead body inside the empty home.

Homicide Squad detectives have established a crime scene at the abandoned house as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The woman is yet to be formally identified.

In a separate incident, police are also investigating the fatal stabbing death of a man in nearby Bayswater North on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 7am but were unable to revive the man, who is yet to be formally identified.  

Another man was arrested nearby and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Charges are yet to be laid.

The circumstances are still yet to be established however there is no evidence of any ongoing threat to the community, police said.
