‘Hope that doesn’t offend?’ Writer reveals vile email from a man offering sex acts

A feminist blogger last night shared a shocking abusive email she received from a man offering to perform a sex act on her.

Celeste Liddle, a campaigner for women’s and aboriginal people’s rights, shared the vile message with her 20,000 Twitter followers.

She wrote: ‘If any journalists are looking for the abuse women writers receive, here’s a revolting email I received this week.

In the email, the man offered Liddle various sex acts and said: ‘I hope that doesn’t offend.’

‘The d***head who sent it thought it was a compliment. I’ve blanked the name as I responded warning him I’d pursue action if he contacted me again.’

In the email, the man offered Liddle various sex acts and said: ‘I hope that doesn’t offend.’

The message started: ‘I’ve come across your writing and I’m intrigued… I just think you’re hot. I love your passion.’

He signed off ‘this is me’ and attached a photo of himself.

The ABC’s flagship TV interviewer Leigh Sales, who has also complained of being abused online, replied to Liddle: ‘Absolutely disgraceful. I’m sorry you received that.’

Fellow journalist Virginia Triolo also replied: ‘Imagine living in the head of the person who sent that? Celeste – delete, block, forget. Don’t give that creep a moment more of your life. I’m sorry it’s intruded on your day.’

Liddle rose to prominence via her personal blog, Rantings of an Aboriginal Feminist and has written for several publications including Daily Life and The Guardian.

Last week Sales was trolled with sexist abuse and accused of virtually performing sex acts on Liberal Party politicians.

The 44-year-old Sydney-based 7.30 host shared with her Twitter followers a particularly vile accusation about her perceived bias.

‘Any interviewer is supposed to be impartial but Leigh Sales virtually goes down on her knees to give any Lib an on-camera blow job,’ it said. ‘She gives them such an easy time.’

Sales, who was previously the ABC’s Washington correspondent, said the trolling highlighted the abuse women in the media face.

‘Another morning, another bit of casual misogyny and abuse – basically a daily occurrence for high-profile women on social media,’ she said on Wednesday.

Sales has regularly copped abuse on social media, including an incident in August 2017 after she had separated from her husband Phil Willis, who is also the father of her two children.

A troll used last year’s gay marriage postal vote survey to take a dig at her personal circumstances.

‘Since Leigh Sales couldn’t hold her own marriage together, she’s busy campaigning to destroy every one else’s,’ the vicious message said.
