Horrific surveillance footage shows the moment a Mercedes drove through a red light at full speed in Los Angeles, smashing into oncoming traffic in a fireball and killing six people including an infant, a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

The footage was filmed from a gas station overlooking the intersection of South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue, in the Windsor Hills district.

The black Mercedes coupe can be seen speeding towards the oncoming traffic at 1:40pm, without any attempt to brake as the lines of cars get nearer.

The black car slams into those driving along the packed highway, and is immediately engulfed in flames.

The cars then crash into the gas station on the other side of the road – considered an architectural icon.

Three of the vehicles burst into flames following the crash.

The victims included four adults, of whom was pregnant. An infant was also killed.

Eight of the nine injured were sent to area hospitals and six of the nine are children and teens.

The driver of the Mercedes is believed to be one of the people sent to the hospital with major injuries, California Highway Patrol said – adding that the scene ‘almost looks like a war zone,’ with crushed and burned-out vehicles with car parts scattered throughout the street.

Two of the burned cars came to a stop under a fuel station sign.

Another appeared to have rolled onto its roof near the gas station entrance.

‘Those two right there exploded, just fire everywhere,’ a witness told NBC 4.

Another witness, Harper Washington, told ABC 7: ‘It looked like the whole intersection from corner to corner was on fire.

‘A lot of sparks and electricity.

‘I was under the impression that, really at first I thought they dropped a bomb on us. I thought another world war had started. Then I realized it was a car into the sign.

‘Once the fire went away and the booming left, I realized it was two cars there. You could see the people on fire and that’s just sad.

‘I really pray for the people and the community.’
