Horrifying moment a window washer FALLS from his platform in high winds but is saved by his safety harness

  • A window washer’s platform took off in high winds, causing it to crash into the building Friday 
  • The man was seen dangling by his harness and was pulled to safety by Edmonton firefighters
  • The cleaner’s condition wasn’t known, but was taken to the hospital by ambulance for evaluation
  • Video shows the platform hit the Stantec Tower four times before the worker lost his footing

It was a perilous scene for one window washer, who was ultimately rescued from his platform several floors above an Edmonton, Alberta office building Friday. 

A witness captured the uneasy video, as the platform hits the building four times in a span of several seconds. 

But it was when it struck Stantec Tower building the final time that gasps can be heard. 

The window washer falls from the scaffolding and is seen dangling by his fingers with vehicular traffic below, as his harness kept him from falling.

The man was pulled, albeit delicately, from the dangerous situation as firefighters used a bucket truck to bring him to safety. 

He was not injured. 

‘Harsh winds blew scaffolding into Stantec Tower calling on the need for both a ladder truck and the technical rescue team,’ Edmonton Fire Rescue told CTV News.

A high wind warning was in effect for Edmonton with gusts up to 62 mph at the time of the incident.   

Rescuers called it an  ‘eventful afternoon.’

The 66-story Stantec Tower in Edmonton is the tallest building in Canada west of Toronto. 

The cleaner’s condition was known, but he was carried to an ambulance on stretcher, Canada.com reports.
