This is the heart-stopping moment a toddler is trapped dangling upside down from a faulty elevator which suddenly shot upwards.
The 19-month-old boy was strapped to the back of his mother’s bike which was being wheeled out when the elevator began to rise.
Dramatic footage from Hefei, eastern China, captured the moment the boy became stuck halfway in, halfway out of the lift and the frantic rescue operation that followed.

After other residents file out of the lift, the video shows the mother backing out through the doors, pulling the bike which is carrying her son with her.
Yet with the doors still wide open, the elevator suddenly jerks upwards, sending the mother tumbling outside the car while her bike continues to rise without her.
But its journey up was brought to a sharp stop as the frame of the bike, which was jutting out of the lift, hit the concrete rim of the shaft, pinning the child’s baby seat.

Meanwhile, they try to calm the panicking mother who is getting increasingly concerned for her crying son.

The authorities said the child was not harmed despite the distressing nature of the accident.
