This is the horrifying moment a pet Labrador is dragged up by its neck after its leash got stuck between the closed doors of a descending lift in China.

The on-leash dog had walked into the elevator alone when the machine began to go down, but its owner was nowhere to be seen.

The dog appeared to be unharmed after it dropped to the floor when the leash eventually slipped through the lift doors several seconds later.

The distressing event is believed to have happened on Monday at a residential community in a south-western Chinese city, but the exact location remains unclear.

It is believed that the dog's owner was not present in the video

This is the frightening moment a pet Labrador is dragged up by its neck after its leash got stuck between the closed doors of a descending lift at a residential community in China

CCTV footage circulated online shows the dog struggling to break free after it was suddenly pulled towards the ceiling when the machine began to go down.

The pet Labrador can be seen at the start of the clip as it wanders aimlessly in and out of the waiting elevator. It is believed that its owner was not present.

A resident then let the animal re-enter the lift while a part of the dog’s leash was still lying in between the doors.

The canine was suddenly yanked from the lift’s floor and dragged up to the ceiling after the machine closed and began to descend.

All the passengers in the lift watched the trapped animal struggle to get away but failed to help.

After about ten seconds, the Labrador finally broke free when the leash appeared to slip through the lift doors.

The social media footage suggested that the incident took place in a south-western Chinese city as people can be heard in the video speaking a dialect resembling the accent from Sichuan province.

A similar horror occurred to a two-year-old toddler in China last Thursday when the girl was dragged up the doors of a descending lift by a safety leash attached to her wrist.

The two-year-old girl was standing in the elevator by herself with her caregiver standing on the other side when the doors suddenly closed, and the machine began to go down.

Shocking surveillance footage released by local media shows the child being yanked from the lift’s floor and dragged towards the ceiling by the arm before getting stuck in mid-air dangerously for several minutes.

The girl’s unusual movement activated the lift’s emergency system, which stopped it from descending.

The elevator then automatically went up, allowing the girl to gain balance and get back on her feet again.

Safety leashes, attached to a child’s back, arm or wrist, are particularly popular among local parents who want to prevent their sons or daughters from going missing or being abducted. One wrist link costs about 30 yuan (£3.4).
