He was taken out of the arena on a stretcher while lifting his fist into the air, with the UFC account on Twitter writing in tribute: ‘Can’t keep a champion down. Wishing @ChrisWeidman a speedy recovery.’

MMA Junkie noted that Weidman’s injury happened the same way he defeated Anderson Silva in 2013.

Weidman had defeated Silva for the UFC middleweight title that year and in a match to keep the title he checked a kick from Silva that snapped Silva’s leg.

‘The only real difference between the Silva kick that Weidman checked, and the Weidman kick that Hall checked more than seven years later was left leg vs. right leg,’ the outlet reported.

Saturday’s bout was UFC’s first event in front of fans since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the outlet noted.

‘I feel so bad for him. I hope he’s OK. I wish his family well if you guys are watching,’  Hall said in his post-fight interview, according to the New York Post.

Horrified fans and fighters online posted about the horrific scene – commenting on how his leg ‘folded like a chair.’
