A baby is recovering in hospital after being hit by a vehicle driven by a family member in a driveway.

Police confirmed the 19-month-old was hit in a driveway by a reversing car on Granville Street in Inverell, New South Wales, at 9:30pm on Sunday, The Northern Daily Leader reported.

The toddler was taken to Inverell Hospital, but was then flown more than 500km to Sydney Children’s Hospital for specialist treatment.

Paramedics were not called to the scene.

The child sustained non life-threatening injuries, including a possible broken arm, bruising, and abrasions.

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the accident, and have confirmed the vehicle was driven by a family member.
