‘Senseless stupidity’: Horror as driver mows down and kills 20 kangaroos and joeys in just one night – as wildlife rescue worker warns more animals could have been seriously injured

Police are hunting a kangaroo killer after 20 were found dead in far south New South Wales. 

Horrified Tura Beach residents woke on Sunday morning to find two residential roads littered with kangaroo corpses.

Police believe a driver deliberately ran them over between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Saturday.

Resident Janine Green, who volunteers for the Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service, described the scenes as ‘carnage’.

She is looking after a joey which survived the rampage. 

‘We are asking all residents to be on the lookout for any others in the area that may be injured and are lying in bushland or vacant blocks,’ she told the Illawara Mercury.

Another resident, Bob Evans, described the incident as ‘a senseless piece of stupidity.’

The people behind this were endangering not only their intended kangaroo victims but also anyone else on the nature strip,’ he said.
