Horror hazing stories emerge from prestigious Adelaide college

Horror stories of hazing at a prestigious Australian college, including allegations of sexual assault, have emerged in a series of shocking revelations.

Almost 200 photos and videos from several Adelaide residential colleges, along with the testimonies of university students and victims, have been brought to light as part of an ongoing investigation by 60 Minutes.

‘My friend showed me photos a group of men had taken of me,’ a former resident of St Mark’s College, in north Adelaide, said.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said she was sexually assaulted after passing out following a night of drinking.

‘I was stripped down to my bra and underpants. The photo showed the group of men crowded around me and touching me on different parts of my body.

‘One of them was propping me up under my arms and another was pretending to sniff my hair. Another man had his hands on my breasts.’

Included in the explicit material is footage of a male student giving a lap dance to a female member of staff, as well as multiple reports of sordid private parties and incidents of sexual assault.

Former student and resident of St Mark’s College, Aria Kirwan, previously revealed details of a seedy ‘sex-tour’ that she was forced to participate in as part of her hazing ritual.

‘There were people pretending to have sex on the table, dancing around in underwear,’ she said.

‘They had porn playing on the TV, and guys that were butt naked walking around.’

Ms Kirwan further claimed that she was pressured to undress in front of older male students, in a series of incidents that ultimately forced her to drop out of the university.

A fresh spate of allegations, however, reveals that she’s one of many who have been exposed to the abhorrent misconduct.

One anonymous victim revealed the moment they told someone at the college that they had been sexually assaulted.

‘I said I had experienced sexual assault, and she said “It’s all part of growing up”,’ the victim recalls.

Other victims have expressed trepidation around telling their stories for fear that they might face public retribution and denial from fellow students.

Ms Kirwan experienced severe backlash after first speaking out, with many weighing in to call her a liar and brand her account as ‘fake news’.

The college culture has prompted many students and leaders to call for action.
