Horror ute smash sees driver escape but back passenger burn to death after head-on collision in Sydney’s south west

A passenger of a ute that caught on fire after colliding with another vehicle has died, with the driver narrowly escaping the burning wreckage.
The fiery crash happened along Menangle Road at Douglas Park, 4km east of the Picton Rd intersection, in Sydney’s south west at about 4.20am on Monday.
The male driver of the ute managed to get out of his vehicle as it burst into flames.
A back-seat passenger was unable to escape and died at the scene.
The driver of the other car sustained arm injuries in the crash.

There were no passengers in the other vehicle.
Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are en route to the scene.
Menangle Road has been closed by emergency services and is expected to remain shut for some hours.
Road diversions are in place at Picton Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
