Cliffsofmoher was shot after injuring his right shoulder during the race, which was won by Cross Counter.
The four-year-old Irish horse was shot dead after being injured near the start of the 157th Melbourne Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
It fell over just 600 metres into the 3.2km track.
