Hot cop who shot to fame with Irma selfie is suspended

The ‘hot cop’ who amassed 300,000 shares on social media for his sizzling selfie during Hurricane Irma has now been suspended from his position on the force.

Officer Michael Hammill shot to fame when a selfie posted while working the night of Hurricane Irma in Gainesville, Florida, attracted thousands of comment on his good looks.

But when someone found his Facebook profile and exposed anti-Semitic posts and jokes about dealing with people ‘the Hitler Way’ – he was suspended from his position on the force.

‘The Gainesville Police Department prides itself with our philosophy and mission of compassion, inclusion and respect and will fully review the matter,’ department said in a statement.

‘Officer Hammil has been suspended with pay.’

Along with two officers Hamill sent social media into meltdown when they shared a photo of them announcing how they were working through the night during the hurricane

They didn’t disclose the nature of the complaint, but according to the Gainesville Sun, the force received several screenshots of Hammill’s Facebook page.

The posts were made in 2011 and 2013.

In one post dated April 2013, Hamill appears to have written: ‘Who knew that reading Jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well.’

The post continued: ‘Here is one for everybody, ‘What’s the difference between boy scouts and Jews?’ Anybody know? Well it is because ‘Boy scouts come back from their camps,’ the post continued.

In another screenshot, Hamill ranted against ‘stupid people’, concluding, ‘Put them in an oven and deal with them the Hitler way. Haha.’

His account later appeared to have been deleted or suspended, but screenshots of the offending posts could still be found on social media.
