Housekeeper spared jail for drunken attack in Manchester

A hotel housekeeper with a history of violence who attacked three innocent bystanders in a drunken rage after launching a furious rant at a woman speaking in a foreign language has been spared jailed.

Natalie Lorde, 41, who had been waiting for a bus home, turned on fellow passengers after exclaiming: ‘I can understand your language and you are slagging me off, you f***ing foreigner.’

One female bystander was punched twice in the face, before Lorde took on the victim’s boyfriend when he tried to intervene.

A third woman was slapped to the face and called a ‘white a*** p****’ before Lorde was eventually apprehended by staff at Shudehill coach station in Manchester.

The woman on the phone was not hurt in the attack.

Lord had been on a night out after finishing work at the four-star Principal Hotel in Manchester city centre.

At the time she was on a suspended sentence for wounding after an attack on an ex-partner in which he was stabbed in the arm and hit with a saucepan five times. She also had a previous history of drink-related violence.

At Manchester CrownCourt, Lorde, from Salford, admitted three offences of assault by beating but escaped with a six-month sentence suspended for two years.

Prosecuting, David James said the attack took place on December 6 last year.

The victims were waiting at the city centre bus station when Lorde became violent and complained of a woman talking on the phone in a foreign language.

Mr James added: ‘She (the woman on the phone) promptly left the bus station and the defendant’s aggression turned towards the first complainant Beth Samuels. Out of the blue the defendant punched her twice to the face.

‘Miss Samuel’s boyfriend Jake Jackson tried to intervene but was punched to the face. The defendant’s aggression is then directed towards the complainant Paige Burgess who is sitting by herself. She called her a white a**e p***y and slapped her across the face.

‘Staff were alerted and we able to intervene and apprehend this defendant.

‘Paige Burgess was minding her own business when someone has come and attacked her for no reason at all. She is a student but doesn’t live nearby and has to travel at night. She has become far more weary of doing so now because of this attack.

‘Upon her arrest, the defendant said she could not remember anything about the attack because she was too drunk. She is 41 and has five convictions for eight offences primarily relating to alcohol matters.’

Defending, Carolyn Smith said Lorde could not remember the attack after drinking an ‘enormous amount of alcohol’.

Lorde was ‘humiliated’ to find herself back in court, she added.

Sentencing, Judge Hilary Manley said: ‘In early December of last year, you had gone out drinking despite the fact that you have a problem with alcohol for some considerable amount of time.

‘You were drunk at Shude Hill bus station and being verbally abusive towards a woman who was on the phone speaking a foreign language and then three other total strangers.

‘You punched Paige Burgess to the face and her boyfriend who tried to intervene. Then you slapped another female and subjected her to ugly personal abuse. These courts are all too familiar with the result of drunken outbursts by people in the city centre.

‘You caused anger and upset to these three individuals as well as racial overtones. When arrested you denied what you did and tried to play the victim. At the age of 41 there is no excuse for this kind of self indulged behaviour fuelled by your insistence on drinking alcohol.’
