The 39-year-old, his wife and two children are all seen holding a Melbourne Demons keepcup – which he says is the key ingredient to their ritual.

‘Every game of the AFL finals series, one member of the family has drunk from the sacred @melbournefc #positivelingers keepcup,’ he wrote. ‘The Dees have won every game we’ve done this.’

‘I’m not saying dominating stoppages won’t be important today, but I feel secure in the knowledge we’ve completed our ritual sip, and have done all we can. I know a lot of fans have a lot of rituals, as well as winning the contested ball today I feel if we can win the Omens, we’ve got this.’

Hamish jokingly added that he ‘generally panicked’ when he couldn’t find the keepcup this morning.

The boxes included sandwiches and the conventional party pies and sausage rolls.

‘AFL Grand Final catering sorted,’ the ARIA award winner said before hilariously acknowledging his lack of knowledge of the game. ‘I better google what teams are actually playing.’
