How British globetrotter, 22, ‘killed in sex game gone wrong’ is from racehorse breeding family

A British globetrotter who was found dead in a Swiss hotel room in ‘a sex game gone wrong’ hails from one of the country’s top racehorse breeding families and was enjoying a round the world trip as a present from her multi-millionaire father.

Anna Florence Reed, 22 – whose late grandfather is equine legend Guy Reed – had been heard arguing with her German boyfriend shortly before her death on Tuesday.

Her super-rich dad Clive Reed, 62, a trustee of a renowned stud, is understood to have flown to Switzerland with his elder daughter Millie, 24, following the tragedy.

Anna had a privileged upbringing in leafy Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and was educated at the town’s renowned private school Ashville College, which charges up to £10,000 a term.

German-born Marc Schatzle, 29, who calls himself ‘Marc Dirtywhite’, claimed Anna died as the result of a ‘sex game gone wrong’. Swiss police yesterday said he had been formally accused of intentional murder.

But her life spiralled downhill when her teacher mother Mary, 49, died suddenly in a freak accident when Anna was just 17. A close friend said she was devastated by her mum’s death in 2014.

She had fallen down some stone stairs after visiting her daughter in her stunning new flat, cracking her head which led to a fatal brain aneurysm.

Anna’s pal said: ‘When she lost her mum she was beside herself with grief, she was devastated, and overnight her life changed.

‘She had gone to one of the best schools in the area but after her mum died she didn’t care about her studies and moved away to Germany. By all accounts she went off the rails and became something of a wild child.’

A statement from Anna’s school said: ‘We are saddened to learn of the death of former pupil Anna Reed, and our thoughts are with her family.’

Anna – described as ‘bright, bubbly and beautiful’ by former neighbours was on a global trip, which had been gifted to her by her father for her 21st birthday. Her elder sister had previously been given the same amazing present.

Anna, who documented her travels on social media under the name Berlin Baby, had posted several photographs of herself in exotic locations in recent weeks.

A number of images show her cosying up to a muscular man tattooed man with the words ‘Warrior’ inked on his forehead and believed to be her latest beau Marc Schatzle, 29, who has been arrested over her death.

He faces a charge of pre-intentional homicide, a lesser charge than murder.

Her grand father Guy Reed died in Monaco in 2013, aged 91. He also formed Reed Boardall haulage giants. But is was his racing genes that passed through the family.

He dad is a trustee at Copgrove Hall Stud in Occaney on the outskirts of Harrogate. Accounts show the company has a turnover of £25million and total assets of £12million.

An employee told MailOnline: ‘Clive is utterly devastated and no one can believe what has happened. It is terrible, just absolutely shocking. This is the second awful tragedy to hit the family. I didn’t know Anna but everyone said she was a very bright and beautiful young woman.’

A former neighbour of Mr Reed said: ‘This is dreadful news. Clive doesn’t deserve all this heartache. He’s a decent, hard working, very private person and keeps himself to himself. I can’t imagine what he and his family are going through right now.’

Post mortem tests showed Anna suffocated to death while small cuts and fractures were found on her body.

She had been staying at the stunning lakeside Ramada La Palma au Lac with her lover, a former bouncer, who lives in Zurich.

A spokesman for the cantonal police said: ‘A 29-year-old German citizen was arrested on April 9. Today he has been formally accused of intentional murder with the possibility of the lesser charge of involuntary homicide after the investigation, which is ongoing.

‘The autopsy has been carried out but the conclusion has not yet reached the Public Ministry.’
