How Karen Pence rebuffed the VP-elect when he tried to KISS her after win

Mike Pence’s wife Karen refused to kiss him after Donald Trump won the election and coldly told him: ‘You got what you wanted’.

Karen shut down the jubilant Vice President after Trump’s shock election victory propelled him into the second most powerful job in America.

According to a new book Karen ‘looked as though she were at a funeral’ as state after state came in for the Trump campaign.

Emily Janes Fox, the author of dishy new book Born Trump: Inside America’s First Family also claims that Kellyanne Conway was the only person foolish enough to take on the job of Trump’s campaign manager – because she was not really in charge.

In fact, Fox asserts,  Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner was the boss and was pulling the strings behind her back.

The book also gives new detail on the notorious encounter between Trump’s first wife Ivana and his then mistress, Marla Maples, at a ski resort in Aspen in 1989.

According to witnesses Ivana was the one who started the screaming match when she told a friend to approach Marla and ‘give her the message that ‘I love my husband very much’.

‘Born Trump’  is series of portraits of the President’s children but also includes new details about election night in November 2016.

At Trump Tower in Manhattan the mood changed late at night once it became clear that Trump had won, Fox says.

Conway kept repeating: ‘We did this. Can you believe this’.

Melania Trump, the future First Lady, was ‘shocked and most concerned with Barron’, her 12-year-old son with the President, who kept falling asleep.

Pence seemed ‘more than a little celebratory’ but Karen ‘looked as though she were at a funeral’.

After Trump called Hillary Clinton to accept her concession of defeat Pence ‘walked over to his wife Karen and told her that they had done it, they’d won’.

Fox writes: ‘I know’, she told him coldly.

‘Well, how about a kiss?,’ he asked.

‘Mike’, she said, turning to him, ‘you got what you wanted’.

Michael Wolff’s ‘Fire and Fury’ book about the Trump White House painted a similarly bleak picture and claimed that Melania cried on the night of the election.

The book says that she ‘shed tears, but not of joy’ as she realised her life was about to change dramatically.

‘Born Trump’ says that Conway was appointed as the Trump campaign manager in the summer of 2016 at one of the lowest points in the election.

At the time Trump was battling  a Gold Star family who had criticized him at the Democratic National Convention and had mocked the weight of a former beauty pageant winner.

Fox writes that Trump’s daughter Ivanka, Jared’s wife, ‘knew that bringing a woman on might help with the optics’ among female voters.

The book says: ‘Ultimately Jared believed no one would run the campaign better than he would – he had been the de facto campaign manager for months anyway – but he agreed with his wife’.

Kushner began to ask around for suitable candidates on the condition that ‘he would still call the shots’.

Fox writes: ‘The people he asked were gobsmacked. What woman in her right mind would come on board knowing that she was getting a fake job to make Donald look good while Jared was the one actually running the show? He wouldn’t tell her that, he’d reply’.

Soon after Conway became the first woman campaign manager in a general election in US history.

The enmity between Ivana, Trump’s first wife, and Maples, his mistress and then his second wife, has been well documented, but ‘Born Trump’ gives new insight into their most infamous episode.

It happened in Aspen, the luxury ski resort, because Trump flew Marla there at the same time Ivana was there on holiday.

By then Ivana knew all too well about Maples but she kept her tongue, even when the two ran into each other on the ski lifts.

But at Bonnie’s, a restaurant which was the place to be seen, things came to a head when Ivana asked her friend to go and speak to Maples.

As Ivana has told it, Maples came up to her and said: ‘I’m Marla and I love your husband’.

In fact, Fox writes that Ivana sent her friend over to tell Maples how much she loved her husband – sparking a furious confrontation.

One witness said it was ‘horrible’. She said: ‘The words were flying back and forth so fast, and I felt sorry for the kids. For the whole family, really. I felt so badly’.

At the time Trump’s children – Don Jr was 11 and about to turn 12 the next day, Ivanka was eight and Eric was five – were all there to witness the confrontation.

Fox writes that Ivana and Trump kept up appearances and never addressed the fight with their children or explained why their family was ‘crumbling in a way they could never rebuild’.

DailyMail.com has already revealed how ‘Born Trump’ describes how Ivanka once flashed the hot dog seller who set up his cart over the road from her $44,000 a year private school.

She is said to have bared her breasts from a window of the exclusive Chapin school in Manhattan whilst she was in eighth grade.

Don Jr became known as ‘Diaper Don’ because he used to wet himself so much while at college because he drank so much.
