How Meghan Markle’s VOICE attracted ‘rebel’ Prince Harry

A speech expert has revealed how it may have been Meghan Markle’s voice that first attracted Prince Harry.

Voice coach Jade Joddle, 31, from London, also suggests that the Queen may not approve of Meghan’s and Harry’s relationship – and much prefers the Duchess of Cambridge’s speaking style.

Jade has become a YouTube hit with her videos which analyse famous voices and her channels have amassed nearly 39 million views.

And Jade says we can all learn tricks to be more attractive like Meghan by improving your speaking style – using simple tips like connecting with your eyes and even eating certain foods.

Describing the possible future princess’ voice, Jade explains: ‘When Meghan speaks, she is super expressive. She wants to connect with her eyes and she conveys feelings through speech, tone and her face.

‘Through her overall speaking style, Meghan also comes across as sassy and fun. She speaks fast and with charisma, so she’s someone who captures your attention with her voice.

‘We enjoy watching people who speak like that and that’s probably what makes Meghan a successful actress.

‘Their faces are constantly drawing us in and showing us what they feel. People who speak like Meghan usually have a lot of social power and people want to know and be friends with them.

According to Jade, Prince Harry’s attraction to Meghan’s lies in the fact that her speaking style is the opposite of that held by the Royal family – and ex-girlfriends such as Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy.

Jade – who charges £100 for a one hour one-to-one speaking skills session – explains: ‘In my philosophy, the way people speak is an expression of their personality and their soul – their inner self.

‘Sometimes people are attracted to individuals who are naturally the same as them and their family – but Prince Harry is the rebel of the Royal family.

‘He’s strongly attracted to Meghan because in her voice and in everything she does, she is the polar opposite of the Royal institution.

‘Unlike the Queen or Kate Middleton for example, she really wants to connect when she speaks and she expresses so much.

‘And Meghan equally is very different to his previous girlfriends who were the Sloane Ranger type. Sloane Rangers talk with a very low pitch in a lackadaisical tone.

Jade claims Meghan is ‘very different to his previous girlfriends’ (Chelsy Davy, left and Cressida Bonas, right) who she says ‘talk with a very low pitch in a lackadaisical tone’

‘Their speaking style suggests that they’ve seen it all before and they’re not easily impressed.

‘Meghan’s the opposite. She has a very high-energy voice and she expresses positivity and enthusiasm readily.

‘Compared to Harry exes, Meghan probably comes across as a lot more fun and a breath of fresh air compared to what he is used to.’

However despite Harry’s infatuation with the Suits star, Jade believes the Queen is probably not a fan of Meghan – given her speaking style.

Jade – who has close to 800,000 subscribers across her two channels – says: ‘When the queen speaks, we’re dealing with the opposite of self-expression. The queen’s presence when she talks is stately – she speaks slowly, hardly ever smiles or doesn’t convey feelings through her face.

‘The Queen gets respect because she is the Queen and she doesn’t have to try hard to get attention – like Meghan.

‘When the Queen meets Meghan, she will be encountering the opposite speaking style. Often when people encounter the opposite speaking style, it makes you uncomfortable and you don’t like it.

‘So I don’t think the Queen will like Meghan’s way of speaking all that much. The Queen likes Kate’s voice more because she is someone who doesn’t give much of herself away. There’s not much personality there with the Duchess of Cambridge.

‘Kate talks precisely, clearly and has a lot of poise and that similarity will draw the Queen in.

‘So when the queen encounters sassy-voiced Meghan Markle, she won’t be that pleased. But that’s why Prince Harry is our royal troublemaker!’

However Jade believes there are speaking techniques that Meghan can employ to get on with her future grandmother-in-law.

‘If Meghan Markles learns some royal protocol and treats her dealings with the royal family like playing a role when she’s acting, I think they will get on really well.

‘However, I do think Meghan should retain some of the personality in her voice and that expressive part of herself – because it’s very charming.

‘So it would be such a shame if she spends too much time around the royal family and adapts to that opposite talking manner.

‘Women can learn a lot from Meghan’s speaking style – her voice is very attractive. She has social charisma and she’s very watchable.

‘Although Meghan’s voice does possess some vocal fry – similar to that of Kim Kardashian for example – she’s got the right balance of it.

‘Many British people, particularly traditionalists, are critical of the vocal fry and don’t like the way it’s creeping into popular speech. But Meghan is from California which is the home of vocal fry so she can’t be blamed too much.’

How to bag yourself a prince

Jade offers her top tips on how to speak like Meghan Markle:

CONNECT WITH YOUR EYES

‘Super-charge your social charisma by connecting with your eyes. This works best when telling upbeat stories about your life: Hold eye contact with wide eyes, but avoid being overly intense by alternating between forward and backwards head movements.’

ADD BOUNCE TO YOUR VOICE

‘When you’re really excited about something, climb to a higher volume and pitch at the end of making your point. Then, let your tone drop to low vocal register (vocal fry) as you begin to make a new point.’

SPEAK FAST BUT CLEARLY BY EATING ‘GROUNDING’ FOODS

‘This tip generally can’t be imitated authentically if it’s not your natural speaking style. What’s remarkable about Meghan as a speaker is that she has the ability to speak fast while still being very clear and articulate. This is a sign of Meghan’s high linguistic and social intelligence.

‘However, fast speakers who do not speak clearly can improve the clarity of their speech by being more grounded in their bodies. There are lots of ways to be more grounded in your body, but one of the most practical ways you can involve in your everyday life is to eat grounding foods such as eggs or root vegetables e.g. beetroot or sweet potatoes whenever you feel scattered.

‘Similarly, if you find that you are speaking fast but not articulating well, it’s important to eat heavier foods rather than fruits and salads.’
