Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their split on Saturday, after just seven months of marriage.
And while the pair are focusing on ‘themselves and their careers’, it remains unclear how the split will affect the singer’s close friendship with sister-in-law Elsa Pataky, 42.
Over the past three years, the wives of the Hemsworth clan have enjoyed shopping trips in Byron Bay, paid gushing tributes to one another, and got matching tattoos.

In January 2016, Miley joined Chris Hemsworth’s wife Elsa for a private shopping trip at trendy boutique Spell And The Gypsy Collective in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
Their visit came after Elsa, a fan of the label, emailed to arrange a visit ahead of that year’s Falls Festival.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the time, Mel Carrero, who works for the label, said the pair chose very similar ‘girly and floaty’ pieces from the collection.
The Fast and the Furious actress brought Miley, 26, to the store with a handful of other friends, after ringing in the New Year with a party at her Chris’ home.

Three months later, Elsa took to Instagram to share a picture of herself with a group of pals including Miley, and gushed about the meaning of true friendship.
‘True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart,’ Elsa captioned the post, adding the hashtags ‘girls lunch’, ‘best moments’, and ‘love you girls’.
In May that year, Miley further cemented her bond with the Hemsworth clan, by getting a matching tattoo with Elsa.
The ladies both had the same wave line design tattoo etched onto their bodies.
Miley’s tattoo artist shared a picture on Instagram of the artworks and wrote in the caption: ‘Stoked to do these little matching custom waves.’

The Party in the USA singer appeared to have hers inked onto the sole of her foot, while Elsa’s looked to be on the inside of her left middle finger.
Miley and Elsa’s friendship appeared to be that close, with reports in January 2018 suggesting the Hannah Montana star was considering a permanent move to Byron Bay.
Miley and Liam had been spotted on numerous occasions out and about in the tourist hotspot over the summer of 2018.
They managed to effortlessly fit in with the locals despite their celebrity status.

Moving to Byron Bay would have been an attractive prospect for Liam, with Chris and Elsa having relocated there from Los Angeles back in 2014.
Meanwhile, a representative for Miley and Liam announced their split to People magazine on Saturday.
‘Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,’ they said. ‘Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and their careers.’

Miley and Liam met in 2009 on the set of romantic comedy The Last Song, and had an on-again-off-again romance for years.
Liam proposed in 2012, only for the pair to split a year later. They rekindled their romance in 2015 before tying the knot in December 2018.
