How Technology Helped Your Life in The Last 20 Years

A lot of technological developments have occurred in the last 20 years. In the early 2000s, only a fraction of Americans had internet access. Today, more than 90 percent have internet in their homes.

Two decades ago, the typewriter was still common in many offices. Today, digital systems have rendered typewriters an obsolete technology. Technology has helped our lives in different ways for the last two decades.

Gaming. In early 2000, the PS2 was created, which precedented the paradigm shift in the gaming industry. The early gaming consoles created for children have evolved to streaming games over Wi-Fi. They have excellent graphics that have developed into complex games.

Online games have been important in the development and growth of online casinos where gamblers play games for money. Today, millions of people play casino games online daily, thanks to technological development.

Mobile phones. Telephone communication 20 years ago was limited. What was most widespread were landlines that gave people limited access. You had to be available near the desk to pick up a telephone after ringing.

Not many people were connected, which made things challenging whenever you wanted to communicate with someone.

Mobile phones were limited, with only slightly above 40% of people owning a mobile phone. Twenty years later, almost everyone owns a mobile phone. The phone has also evolved into a smartphone that can do so many things apart from calling.

Users can shoot photos, and videos, download music, etc. It is easy to communicate with anyone, anytime in the entire world. The smartphone has been instrumental to many investors achieving business success.

Health care. Twenty years ago, the health field had achieved significant growth but not like it is today. Patients would queue outside doctors’ rooms for many hours. Tests were done, but it took longer to diagnose diseases and begin treatment.

Vaccines took over five years to be created and tested before being administered to human beings.

Today, everything in the healthcare sector has changed. Technology has brought telehealth, where patients consult with their physicians from home. There are more tech machines for disease diagnoses, surgeries, therapies, and scanning.

Vaccines can be developed using modern technologies in less than one year.

Access to education. Education is essential for information and a knowledgeable generation. Whenever we want to focus on enhancing our careers, we look back to education and seek ways to advance. Wide access to education has been the dream of every stakeholder.

Twenty years ago, education was mainly accessed by attending a physical classroom, although there was some level of online education. Today, different education technologies have availed education to everyone globally.

Online education has never been easily accessible as it is today.

There are entire e-libraries full of affordable textbooks. Technologies such as VR, AR, AI, NLP, and the latest applications have helped improve the online learning experience for millions of students globally.

Money transfers and payments. Two decades ago, the commonest methods of payments were limited to credit cards, debit cards, checks, and cash. Clients had to walk to a bank to withdraw cash or order a wire transfer.

Sometimes people had to carry large amounts of money to go and pay bills or goods.

Everything has changed today due to the fast growth of technology. Customers no longer visit the bank for transactions.

Banks have developed applications that give clients access to online banking services. Now, customers simply schedule bills payments or make payments using applications.
