Cars are not eternal. Sooner or later there comes a moment when you can’t (or don’t want) to drive your vehicle, but you can’t sell it – no one buys it. You can’t just “forget” your car somewhere

But there is a completely legal way to get rid of auto junk and even earn something on it. We are talking about recycling. How to dispose of a car in 2022? We understand in detail – after all, this is not only a physical process but also a bureaucratic procedure.

The obvious reason to start the recycling procedure is the extreme physical deterioration of the car. It does not matter if it occurred due to the vehicle’s age, high mileage, or a serious car accident.

Regardless of the reasons for disposal, you must first submit an application to the traffic police to remove your vehicle from the register and also attach an explanatory note, which should set out the reasons for the upcoming disposal.

The procedure is much more complicated if you do not want to dispose of the entire car, but plan to keep some of its units – for example, to sell them separately. In this case, the procedure requires the presence of all documents of the car.

The removed units will also have to be submitted to the traffic police for inspection and must be included both in the application for deregistration and in the explanatory note on the reasons for disposal.

For each part that has its own identification number, the car owner can ask for a certificate of the released unit, which will make its subsequent sale legal. In the case of an engine, a certificate must be obtained.

Is it possible to dispose of a car without documents?

It is realistic to carry out legal disposal of a car even if the owner does not have original documents confirming the fact of car ownership. For example, if documents were lost or stolen.

However, information about the registration of a car with an indication of the owner is in the databases of the traffic police – which means that its disposal should not be a problem.

You will also have to provide your own ID, write an application and an explanatory note, in which you indicate the circumstances of the loss of documents for the car.

What to do after the deregistration of the car?

First of all, remember that you are not allowed to drive an unregistered vehicle. It must be moved on a tow truck.

In the same way, the car will have to be sent on its last journey to the center, where it will be disposed of. The towing service is paid for by the owner of the car. After receiving the vehicle at the recycling point, the former owner will be issued a certificate.

How can you make money on recycling?

However, dealerships and car dealerships that provide customers with “recycling” discounts and certificates for the purchase of a new car can help those who want to say goodbye to an old car.

Do not forget that a deregistered car can be sent for scrap, having previously dismantled and taken care of sorting the metal – in this case, the money can be received directly into your hands.

You also can try to sell your car to “cash for cars” companies that buy old cars and pay instantly.

How to cancel disposal if you change your mind?

According to the vehicle registration rules, this is only possible if the vehicle has only been deregistered for disposal, but has not yet been physically destroyed.

The application is written in free form, but it must contain all the details of the car, including body and engine numbers. Remember that the car itself will again have to be submitted to the traffic police for an expert inspection before registration.
