How to download Fortnite on Android

The massively-popular video game Fortnite is finally available on Android – but downloading it will be a bit more difficult than most other game apps on the mobile device.

Fortnite’s beta launched exclusively on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on August 9 before becoming available for other Android devices.

Unlike most other games however, Fortnite will not be available in the Google Play Store. Fortunately, GameSpot has just revealed some key tips on how to download the hit video game successfully on Android devices.

Downloading Fortnite on Android devices will be more complex than most other video games

Notably, the type of device being used determines how and where to install the game.

Those using the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S9 Plus, Note 8, Note 9, Tab S3, or Tab S4 should simply bring up the Game Launcher on their device, search for Fortnite and download the game’s installer. It can also be downloaded directly from the Epic Games website.

For other Android devices, the downloading process can be more time-consuming and complicated. Fortnite fans should first make sure their device is compatible on Epic Games’s official list. If it is, they can sign up via email for the Fortnite beta waiting list and wait for an invitation from Epic Games.

From there, they should log in with their Epic Games account and connect to PC Battle Pass, PSN or Xbox Live.

Upon doing that, they’ll have to sit tight and wait again. Epic Games has reportedly said that it will take just a few days before Fortnite beta keys are received. Once registered after receiving the beta key, players can download the Fortnite Installer on their device and ultimately download the Fortnite app to play the game.

Once the game download is completed, gamers can open up Fortnite, log into their Epic Games account and begin playing. Epic Games has strongly advised that the Fortnite Installer be kept on devices and not deleted, as the installer is needed to update the game via new patches rather than the app itself.

If gamers don’t want to avoid the hassle and uncertainty of waiting for a beta invitation to play the video game, they can always wait until the game officially launches on all Android devices sometime in the near future.

However, the app still will not be available in the Google Play Store upon the game’s official release. Even then, gamers will need to download it directly from either Epic Games’s website or the Samsung Game Launcher.

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a popular action-shooter video game that currently has in excess of 125 million players around the world.

Published and developed by Epic Games, Fortnite’s immensely-popular battle royale mode was first introduced back in September 2017 and has proven to be a global phenomenon in the months since its launch.

The mode sees 100 players engage in fast-paced, high-intensity matches that blend the gameplay found in traditional shooter games with fort building and survival elements.

Fortnite, in addition to now being available on Android devices, is also currently available to play on other platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, MacOS and iOS.
