How to get 9 DAYS of holidays by taking just four days off work

How to get 43 DAYS of holidays by taking just 16 days off work: Your guide to maximising your vacations in 2022

  • Aussies advised to use their annual leave with public holidays to boost time off
  • Employees can maximise their holidays by planning leave around key dates
  • Vacations could be doubled, using minimal leave, by targeting public holidays

Australians in need of a break could more than double the length of their upcoming holidays without draining their annual leave balance.

The Today Show’s finance expert Effie Zahos revealed hardworking Australians can maximise their vacations by booking their annual leave around public holidays.

‘It’s the old trick of adding your annual leave to public holidays…if you target the main holidays you can actually double it,’ she told Today on Friday.

Holidaymakers could score themselves nine days off in the lead up to Australia day, by only taking four days of annual leave from the 22nd to 28th of January.

This means Aussies would get the 22nd to the 30th off because the public holiday falls on a Wednesday, leaving the remaining days weekends.

Employees can take a whopping 17 day break between the 15th of April to May 1st using only eight days of leave by taking advantage of Easter and Anzac Day.

Because the remaining days are either public holidays or weekends, you will max out your leave time while barely making a dent in your annual allowance.

A four day break is up for grabs for the following week in NSW if leave is booked on the Queen’s birthday which falls on Monday June 13.

However, Western Australians will have to wait until September 26th to bank their leave and Queenslanders until October 3.

While public holidays will be sparse over winter, Aussies will be able to enjoy a nine day break for four days of leave as the weather begins to warm in spring.

Workers in ACT, NSW and SA won’t need to bank any leave to score themselves a three-day break with Labour Day falling on Monday October 3 out of the weekend.

Christmas and New Years Day will again fall over the weekend in 2022 and 2023, giving Aussies additional public holidays on December 27 and January 2.
