In addition, stretching can improve your range of motion, ensuring that the wrong movement won’t cause an injury. Stretching may have other physical benefits as well such as improving your sense of balance and increasing flexibility, both of which can come in handy when trying to prevent injuries. If you want to stay completely healthy and prevent injuries, you should stretch throughout the day, mostly in the morning and in the afternoon. While it may be hard to fit stretching sessions into your schedule, stretching can go a long way in preventing future foot injuries.

Wear the Right Shoes

A big part of preventing foot injuries is ensuring that you have the right type of shoes on your feet. Everyone’s feet are different, and as a result different shoes need to be worn by people with different feet. For example, if you have an extremely flat foot, then you’ll probably want to wear a shoe with lots of support. If you don’t, then your lack of arch and support could lead to some foot injuries down the road. However if you don’t have a flat foot and you wear shoes designed with extra support in mind, then you could also cause injury to your foot. If you want to prevent another foot injury then you’ll need to ensure that the type of shoes you’re wearing matches the type of shoe you need.

Stay Away From Uneven Surfaces

Sprained and twisted ankles are one of the most common foot injuries one can experience. Oftentimes these injuries occur when walking or hiking on uneven surfaces. When on these surfaces, all it takes is just a little bit of movement for the foot or ankle to twist or bend in an awkward way. Injuries like these can often be quite painful and can have a major effect on your range of movement, making them quite the annoyance. Sprain symptoms can range from talus foot pain to the inability to walk, making it imperative that you avoid this injury. Although there may be some scenarios where uneven surfaces are impossible to avoid, you should try to stay away from them as much as possible. If you can’t avoid them during something like a hike, ensure that you take your time and go slowly, as one wrong movement could lead to a major foot injury.

Replace Old Shoes

When trying to prevent foot injuries, wearing the right type of shoes isn’t the only thing you need to worry about. You should also be worrying about the age and durability of your shoes as well. As shoes become worn out, their support and protection fades away. As a result, wearing old shoes offers you little to no protection or support. In fact, these old shoes may be so worn out that they may actually cause you to be even more injury prone instead of preventing injuries. Although replacing shoes may be expensive, you really shouldn’t be wearing the same pair of shoes for an extremely long period of time.
