How to tame ANY hair problem with scissors

Anyone with unmanageable curls, free-flowing thick locks or thin tresses will relate to the daily struggle of styling their hair.

But an A-list hairdresser believes there’s a specific cut for every type of tresses to ensure you never have a bad hair day again.

Larry King, who sLottie Moss, Poppy Delevingne, Jamie Dornan and Zayn Malik, has created ‘hair remedies’ – specific cuts he says will cure any issue you have with your locks.

We sent three women – one with curly hair, one with thick and one with thin locks, into his South Kensington salon to test the new concept – and they showcase the results in stark before and after snaps.

Discussing his hair remedies, Larry told MailOnline: ‘It’s about using all of our experts to come up with the perfect remedy for your hair, it’s about trusting our experts with your hair, to give you the right hair style and colour mix that’s going to be perfectly on trend but also work with your hair texture, your face shape or your skin tone.

‘It’s about having hair that looks as great all the time, not just when you step out of the salon – working with your natural texture will get one step closer.’

THE CURLY HAIR REMEDY

The remedy involved removing the weight from the hair by adding layers and face framing

Celebrity hairdresser Larry King has created ‘hair remedies’ – specific cuts he says will cure any issue you have with your locks. Here, he shows the before, left, and, after, effects of his curly hair remedy. The remedy involved removing the weight from the hair by adding layers and face framing

Speaking about ladies with curly locks, Larry explained: ‘We often see clients with beautiful curls, that are straightening them, flattening them, hiding them under hats.

‘Curly hair is such an asset and with the right cut and styling can look incredible but they can be tricky if you don’t know what to do with them. It’s about having the right cut for curly hair, using the right products and being shown how to look after it.’

Lucy Jones at Larry’s salon worked on Miranda’s hair, explaining that she removed the weight from the hair by adding layers and face framing, being careful not to take anything too short as curly hair has a tendency to bounce back on itself when it’s dryed.

She explained: ‘Miranda has a crazy amount of hair so it gave me the opportunity to add a hidden layer underneath, which accentuated any natural movement that was in the hair.’

Used Pureology Style and Care Smooth Perfection to decrease frizz, Redken’s Full Effect 04 mousse to add volume and Redken’s Ringlet to define the curls

With the head tipped over, use the Dyson hairdryer on a low heat and low speed with a diffuser attached lifted from roots to ends slowly drying and hardly touching except for putting fingers in the roots and slowly massage to break up the roots and increase volume

Discussing ladies with thick hair, Larry explained that they often want to remove weight to try and make their hair more manageable and it’s common to ask for layers to remove the weight.

However, he says this can actually often make the hair on the surface even more unruly so got Louis Cowley to inject new life into the locks.

‘We like to work through the underneath layers of the haircut section by section removing weight either by invisible layers, slicing hair out or cutting through the hair strategically with thinning scissors depending on the hair texture and style required,’ he said.

To lift the face and add more shape, he took V sections to the crown

Work through the underneath layers of the haircut section by section removing weight either by invisible layers, slicing hair out or cutting through the hair strategically with thinning scissors.

This then leaves the surface layer of the hair smoother and easier to manage.

Louis kept the length long but broke up the blunt ends, slicing through the underneath to eliminate weight.

He added shape around the face by taking V sections to the crown to open up the face and take weight away.

THE FINE HAIR REMEDY

He added: 'This technique for cutting fine hair creates more movement and texture in the mane of the hair, which in our opinion is the most important thing'

Fine Hair expert Scott Ade at Larry King King says that often with fine hair, hairstylists will try to convince clients to keep their hair one length thus leaving it blunt and thicker on the ends.

‘This often leads to the hair lying flat and heavy, regardless of how fine it is,’ he said.

‘For our fine hair remedy we’ve flipped that idea on its head. We’ve added more into her fringe and added lots of shorter layers around the face.

‘These areas of the hair are often the weakest for people with fine hair so cutting them shorter both strengthens the hair and the hairstyle. These face framing layers are then used as a guideline to create longer layers throughout the rest of the haircut.

THE THICK HAIR REMEDY

Ask your stylist for face framing layers as a guideline to create longer layers throughout the rest of the haircut.

The trick is to be realistic and to try to work with what you have.

Redken’s thickening lotion is a great product to use with the fine hair remedy, it adds body and texture.

Getting your hair coloured is also a great way to give hair a bit more oomph too, fine hair can take on full impact colour, adding depth to hair.
