Howard Stern criticizes Oprah Winfrey for ‘showing off’ her lavish lifestyle on Instagram

Howard Stern called out Oprah Winfrey for showing off her lavish lifestyle on social media.

The controversial radio host, 68, spoke about how the media mogul, 68, ‘loves showing off’ her wealth and is ‘not embarrassed by’ it during The Howard Stern Show on Monday.

‘It’s f****** mind-blowing when you follow her on Instagram,’ he told his co-host Robin Quivers, 70, before adding, ‘You gotta be a little self-aware and know that there are people struggling out there.’

‘Oprah’s not embarrassed by her wealth at all,’ he said. Stern also stated that when you follow the famed talk show host on Instagram you ‘see her estates, her gardens, the people who service her.’

‘Service her? She’s not a car,’ Robin admonished him.

‘Well, she kind of is. She’s got servants and like people cooking and it’s f****** wild.’

Stern continued his critique, adding that Oprah ‘knows’ how to be rich and ‘likes’ to show it off.

‘Which is something I’m not comfortable with,’ he added. ‘I don’t think that people should show off their wealth.’

Robin rebutted his statement, ‘Oprah’s just showing you her life. She’s not showing off.’

However, Stern didn’t see it that way, and said her posts lacked self-awareness.

‘You gotta be a little self-aware and know that there are people struggling out there, Robin. You got to. You gotta kind of think about people who don’t have — to eat. You know what I’m saying? I mean, come on. You gotta be a little bit aware of this.’

Robin once again challenged his statement: ‘Well, if you don’t show your wealth, are they getting fed?’

Wild: 'She's got servants and like people cooking and it's f****** wild,' he said of her social media content, adding, 'I don't think that people should show off their wealth'

‘No, they are not. But I make a good living, and I’m having trouble watching Oprah. I go, wow. Look what’s going on over there? Her estate is unbelievable. When she goes shopping, she goes shopping in her backyard cause everything is growing back there. There’s a farm back there,’ he said of her extensive garden which is frequently featured on her Instagram.

However, Stern did praise Oprah for her charitable work with The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – her South African school – and the fact that she invited the students to her house on each Thanksgiving.

‘Every Thanksgiving she welcomes the African gals at her boarding school in Africa for girls — I guess whose parents abandon them. And she takes them in and they call her like “Mama”… and all the African women come up to her estate and they start singing.’

Jealous? 'I make a good living, and I¿m having trouble watching Oprah. I go, wow. Look what¿s going on over there? Her estate is unbelievable. When she goes shopping, she goes shopping in her backyard cause everything is growing back there. There¿s a farm back there,' he added

‘I think [the girls] believe Oprah’s God because she gives them an education. She gives them meals, don’t ask. They love her. And it’s impressive. I gotta be honest. I mean, it’s real charity work.’

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was established in January 2007, with Oprah investing $40 million into the school, which features state-of-the-art classrooms, computer and science laboratories, a theatre and more.

The school has a current enrollment of 450 pupils.

Oprah – dubbed the Queen of All Media by fans – began working in media at 17-years-old until she became the host of the iconic Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986.
