A huge fire has broken out near the Olympic Stadium in east London.

The blaze is being tackled by eight fire engines and 58 firefighters at car warehouse on Wick Lane in Hackney.

There were people reported to be in the warehouse when the blaze broke out but a London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline that all people were accounted for and there were no fatalities.

The blaze appears to have taken hold on the opposite side of the River Lea from the London Stadium, the home of West Ham football club

It is believed the flames are now out but there still fire engines on the scene.   

Footage shows the blaze in front of the London Stadium in Stratford, where the 2012 Olympics were held.

The warehouse on fire is next to a big yellow storage unit and  the New Bethel Revival Ministry, an Evangelical church.    

It is in an industrial park and surrounded by buildings, self storage units and flats. 

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers were called to a disused warehouse fire on Wick Lane in Hackney this evening. One fire rescue unit and an aerial ladder platform were also at the scene.

‘Twenty-seven 999 calls were received by Brigade Control to this very visible fire that could be seen for miles around.

‘Part of the first and second floor of the building are damaged by fire.

‘The Brigade was called at 1928 and the incident was under control by 2141. Fire crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green, Leyton, Stratford, Poplar, Stoke Newington and Ilford fire stations were at the scene.’

 Locals took to social media to spread news of the fire.

‘The area around my house smells of burnt rubber’  Ray Roberts tweeted.

London Ambulance also confrimed they were on the scene.
