Hugh Grant hit the election campaign trail tonight as he braved the cold to go door-knocking with ex-Labour MP Luciana Berger.

The 59-year-old is campaigning on behalf of the Lib Dems and was seen out and about this evening in north London.

The actor, best known for his roles in Christmas classics such as Love Actually, revealed just last month that he would be supporting tactical voting.

This evening he was pictured going from door to door in Finchley with other Lib Dem supporters, meeting people in the local area, listening to their concerns.

He was side by side with Berger who was previously the Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree. She resigned earlier this year before going on to co-find the Independent Group. She later joined the Lib Dems.

On November 26 Grant urged young people to register to vote, and said if they didn’t then he would ‘make another enchanting romantic comedy’.

He hinted that people could vote tactically in order to prevent a Tory majority in the election later this month.

Grant has also previously played Lib Dem MP Jeremy Thorpe in the BBC drama ‘A Very English Scandal’.

His campaigning efforts come after a recent poll suggested that candidates who had defected from other parties would lose in the election.

Berger is currently 18 points down in Finchley and Golders Green, according to a YouGov poll for The Times.

Chuka Umunna is also said to be 13 points behind in Cities of London and Westminster, while Angela Smith is trailing by 33 points in Altrincham and Sale West.

YouGov said its methods for the poll used aggregated data and projections which may not reflect specific localised factors in its analysis and sample sizes in individual seats were, on average, too small to be relied upon as constituency polls.
